About Whistler
Whistler is situated in the Pacific Range of the Coast Mountains of British Columbia, Canada. Located only 40 kms inland from the Pacific Ocean, and 120 kms north of Vancouver, Whistler Resort provides a wonderful west coast Canadian mountain experience. Currently around 10,000 people call Whistler their permanent home and the population explodes to around 50,000 during the peak periods. The local community is very active, with an enthusiastic commitment to protecting the environment surrounding us and to become a more sustainable resort community. The village has a town hall, fire and police station, medical clinic, museum, library, and more than 200 shops and 90 restaurants. In only 25 years, Whistler has gone from a small wilderness recreation community originally known as Alta Lake to the world famous resort destination it is today.
Averaging over 10 metres (33ft) of annual snowfall, Whistler is a snow enthusiast playground. Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains offer the highest lift serviced vertical and the largest terrain of any ski area in North America, with large alpine bowls, gladed tree runs and more groomed runs than any other resort. Along with the longest season and most vertical (1 mile) in North America, Whistler has 4 terrain parks for those who prefer to spend as much time in the air as they do on the ground. Whether fast, groomed runs or steep and deep technical lines are your thing, you will find something to challenge (and scare) you here. Ski-in/ski-out accommodation abounds in Whistler, and equals or exceeds any North American mountain resort.
Whistler is also a world class summer destination, with numerous activities to keep everyone busy. Mountain biking is one of the world’s fastest growing sports, and Whistler has become a mecca for both downhill and cross country riders from around the globe. On top of this, Whistler is host to 3 golf courses of international championship quality, with another one 30 minutes drive north in Pemberton. With hiking, camping, fishing and various other activities to do, Whistler is fast becoming THE place to be in summer.
