The skies in Whistler cleared early this morning, and ski patrol took advantage of it by getting into the alpine areas quickly and managed to have them open by just after 9am ( I think ). Spanky’s Ladder was awesome snow, steep and deep as they say. The Blackcomb glacier had a little bit of a windswept crust to it, not exactly deep powder, but nice nonetheless. Unfortunately the glacier was closed around lunch-time, and I believe Spankys was closed later on. There was a report of a big avalanche ( size 3 ) in the glacier region, I haven’t heard any details, so I wont make any guesses.
The snow started again around midday, and got steadily heavier. My car had a good couple of inches on it by the time I got back to the carpark. Not much new snow is expected between now and Tuesday, however once that system gets here we should receive another 30cm or so. We should have a good day in the alpine tomorrow, plenty of fresh snow still there, and hopefully decent visibility with low winds.
Whistler snow base is now 236cm.
