Today was the second in a row where we experienced cloud free skies, with no winds and comfortably cool temperatures. The mountains are in great shape, with virtually no lift queues. No new snow, with none expected until the late this weekend. Sunny weather is perfect for skiing, so long as the snow is good, and right now the snow is good at Whistler.
I personally spent the day in the Blackcomb back country, once again doing some runs on the Spearhead Glacier before heading back in bounds via a line called ‘Husume’. The Spearhead glacier was epic, as it always seems to be. There isn’t anything else quite like being in the ‘middle of nowhere’ at an altitude of approximately 2300m. The views are magnificent, and there is no rush to claim your line, as the fresh powder isn’t going anywhere, and there is no one around to ’snake’ your run. ‘Husume’ is quite a steep line, and consistently steep the whole way down. Unfortunately it had been skied a few times before we got there, and therefore it was no longer ‘fresh’, but still awesome snow. It was definitely at the edge of my comfort zone, a little less cut up and I might have had a chance, but the way it was, it was a challenge for me (especially with the backpack on).
Overall a great day, whether in or out of bounds.
