Another stormy day in Whistler

January 14th, 2008 · No Comments

Whistler Blackcomb ski resort experienced a windy, stormy day. 10 cm of new snow overnight had peoples hopes up for an awesome day, however strong winds and poor visibility once again kept the alpine lifts shut all day. The freezing level was just above the valley floor, so the snow was reasonable, yet a little wet at the bottom of the mountain. While nothing really to complain about, once I realized the alpine lifts were staying closed, I called it a day and headed home. Got to work sometime. The temperatures are meant to drop this week, which should dry out the snow we have and result in great skiing conditions. I am content to have a rest day, and am looking forward to skiing the rest of this week. It should be mainly clear and cold. With plenty of good snow on the mountains, it is going to be a nice change to be able to see where you are skiing.

Whistler snow base is 244 cm. The weather should clear up tonight, with maybe a small flurry or two. Then clear skies and sunny patches for the rest of the week. Temperatures are going to drop down to the -6 Celsius range, whereas it has been sitting around the -2/3 range lately.
