1st day of Spring in Whistler 2008 was one of the best of the season.
Long time between reports - I have been on a road trip to some resorts in the interior of BC. I spent 2 days at the new Revelstoke resort, and 1 day each at Kicking Horse, near Golden, and Silverstar and Big White, both near Kelowna. Great trip, and we had 2 awesome powder days, 1 20cm day at Revelstoke, and a 5-10cm day at Silverstar. I hope to add some photos of the trip to the gallery.
As for the current Whistler snow conditions, I returned home to find my home resort in amazing shape. We had a reported 5cm overnight and 7 cm in the last 24 hours. However, the skiing today was more like a 15cm day, I am not sure what happened with the small report. The clouds came and went, bringing small flurries during the day, but while the sun was out, it was ‘Champagne’ powder snow shredding time. The fresh snow is as good as it gets (similar to the great snow I found at Revelstoke), and easily as good as any snow we have had this season. Not exactly the usual ’spring skiing’ we have, it was more like a ‘depth of winter’ day
The current forecast is looking up too. Small flurries for the next few days, with a big dump of 15-20cm expected on the weekend. Good times ahead. It is still quite cold for the upper third of both Whistler and Blackcomb mountains, which is giving us this excellent snow, so if you are heading up, make sure you have an extra layer on to keep warm.
