Chilly Monday

January 21st, 2008 · No Comments

This morning was really cold, I heard through the grapevine that places like Vancouver and Seattle were having their coldest days in over a year. In Whistler, the temperature was around -12 Celsius with slightly colder temps at the top of the mountains. Whistler has certainly had colder days than this, but today just ’seemed’ really cold. The alpine was windy, so wind chill was a factor , but even below the tree line where there wasn’t much wind, it was bone chilling. After midday, the temperatures did rise a little ( to about -5 ) so it was a bit more bearable.
Maybe it was because the groomers were in such good shape, you couldn’t help but ski fast, thus creating your own wind chill factor. The Whistler mountain grooming department have certainly been busy this weekend, I saw runs / areas groomed that I can’t remember the last time ( if ever ) I have seen them groomed, and for the most part, they did a good job.

Even though it was still part of the Martin Luther King long weekend for Americans, today ( Monday ) was very quiet. There were no lift lines as such to report.

Snow Report:

No new snow ( again ) but some is expected in the long range forecast ( 7 Day and beyond ). Whistler Blackcomb ski resort reports that their snow base is currently 228 cm.
