Clear skies and awesome snow

January 16th, 2008 · No Comments

Whistler Blackcomb ski resort had another bluebird day today. Clear skies and cool but not cold temperatures resulted in great snow conditions, and an awesome day of skiing. We have an temperature inversion right now, which means it’s colder in the village, than at the top of mountain. This happens when a layer of warm air comes in and traps a layer of cold air beneath it. So basically, its quite cold in the village ( still around -9 ) but when you get to the alpine, it is around -3 Celsius. Still cold enough for great snow quality, but not so cold you freeze on the chairlifts.

No new snow and none is expected for the next little while. Whistler snow base is 242 cm. Looks like a week of sunshine and great conditions.
