Dumping Snow on Whistler

March 23rd, 2008 · No Comments

Whistler woke up to around 20cm of fresh snow, with another 15 or so falling during the day. Thats a lot of snow for Easter :) Better still is the fact that it is still snowing at the base of the mountains, resulting in epic snow. The only bad news today was that ski patrol failed to open the higher elevation chair lifts, due to avalanche control I presume. The winds over night had been very high, which would have resulted in big wind laden deposits of fresh snow that wouldn’t have bonded very well with the surface, hopefully tomorrow will bring more luck. The forecast is for around 10cm more snow tonight, still with high winds, but not as high as last night and today. The winds should drop of tomorrow so hopefully the alpine lifts will be opened (with around 45cm of fresh snow on it).

The skiing conditions were close to excellent in my opinion, with visibility usually pretty good, and snow quality as good as it gets.

Considering how much terrain was open, the lift lines were pretty good. My longest wait would’ve been 10 minutes (which is pretty bad really) but most of the time it was  around a 5 minute wait.
