Most of the Whistler’s higher altitude lifts didn’t open yesterday, due to high winds and avalanche control, this resulted in 30cm or so of fresh powder up there. Add to that the 10cm that fell last night, coupled with a bluebird morning, and it was epic skiing all round. The weather did set in a bit later in the day, with cloud and fog layers floating around the mountains, however the visibility was never so bad you couldn’t see, and at times was excellent. The lift lines were a bit crazy for the first 2-3 hours, as you would expect with holiday crowds, and so much snow always brings all the locals out for a few runs. By midday though, it was a different story, with lift lines almost non-existent and a wait of around 10 chairs. Snow conditions overall are amazing, only the lower mountain has marginal conditions, with icy patches developing (great coverage though).
From first lift to last, it was a great day.
With all the snow lately, Whistler’s snow base has crept up to 274cm. Not bad for Easter
It’s not stopping either, the current forecast is calling for small amounts of accumulation each day for the next week, with the biggest dump expected around Wednesday / Thursday. I should also mention that the temperatures have been exceptionally cold for this time of year, today the alpine region was around -10 Celsius. This is making great snow, usually all the way to the valley.
