I didn’t go up today, but heard that the Harmony chair opened (see yesterdays comments for one by Steve and the ‘rumors’ he has heard). Hopefully this means the Peak Chair and Symphony might be opening soon. Symphony would have a better chance in my opinion, since the Peak chair accesses a lot more avalanche prone regions, and thus harder to control where the public goes. Symphony is mainly ‘mellow’ terrain, so hopefully will open tomorrow or Monday.
Overall, another sunny day with perfect visibility. Temperatures are getting warmer, and by now the cold air is escaping the valley – So the snow will be becoming very soft, very soon. Lets hope we get some colder and wetter weather sooner rather than later….
Today I went and watched a FIS Ski Jump event (actually a Nordic Combined event which incorporates a Ski Jump component and a Cross Country Skiing component) being held at the Whistler Olympic Park in the Callahan Valley. The Whistler Olympic Park is the Nordic events venue for the 2010 Winter games and is approximately a 10 minute drive south of Whistler, and then another 10 minute drive from the turn-off. I only watched the Ski Jumping as I didn’t have the time to hang around and watch the XC skiing. It was my first time watching the ski jumping live, and it is pretty impressive. I have bought tickets to this event for the Olympics, and look forward to seeing them get even more air !!
The longest jump of the day was 139m – in the video below the first red line is 120m and the second is 140m.
