Freezing level hovering around mid-mountain

February 10th, 2008 · No Comments

Whistler has returned to its ‘normal’ weather pattern of having a freezing level around mid-mountain. While the skiing is still great, it’s not quite as good as it has been. The snow has become a little bit wetter, and therefore heavier. That makes its it harder to ski, takes more energy to do each turn. Luckily it is still snowing, as any snow is better than no snow. Overnight we had a few cms, and during the day it was flurrying more often than not. Tonight the forecast is for around 2cm.

Looks like the wet snow is here for a while, with the long term forecast predicting the temperatures to remain around the current -5 for alpine, to around 0 in the valley. There is plenty of precipitation  expected, so its only a case of where the rain stops and the snow starts. During these times, the alpine is generally awesome skiing, with the conditions slowly getting worse as you go further down the mountain. Normally though, the skiing from mid-mountain up remains good.
