Same as yesterday, Whistler is blessed with great snow, yet is battling variable light conditions. Plenty of fresh snow abounds, it seems a lot more then the small amounts reported by the resort. This afternoon Whistler received what seemed like a big dump, and I am looking forward to first lifts tomorrow.
The Peak to Valley race on Whistler started today, and concludes tomorrow. I haven’t heard any times from today, but it will all come down to who got to race while the light was good, and who got stuck with flat light. Hopefully tomorrow is a bit more consistent ( with good light ) and the race can be won the fastest skier.
Snow Report :
Not much new snow, but it seemed like there was. Tonight the forecast is for only a few cm’s, but as mentioned earlier, we have had a decent dump late this afternoon. Temperatures are still quite low in the alpine, hovering around the -10 Celsius. A few clear days coming up, and then more snow, with a decent snowfall or two expected. Snow base is 237 cm. 54 cm in the last 7 days.
This month Whistler celebrates ‘Out of Bounds - Tales from the Backcountry‘, a photo exhibition and contest with a theme of backcountry skiing and snowboarding in beautiful British Columbia. Next week is the annual GayWhistler WinterPride ski week, where Whistler welcomes gay people from all over the world. To quote the organizers ‘GayWhistler presents WinterPRIDE - with all the great elements of the traditional gay ski week and the “bonus” of a winter festival; a more comprehensive and exciting range of culinary, health & wellness, spa, and educational activities.’
This month Whistler also host a number of ski racing events with the main one being the FIS World Cup stage during the week of the 18th - 24th.
