It’s snowing in Whistler, with light flurries on and off during the day – WB report a total of 5cm so far in the last 24 hours. They also forecast more flurries over the next few days and hopefully something decent by/around the weekend.
Is our season finally getting going ?? Lets hope this is the start of a snowy February, because we sure do need it. It appears the freezing level will remain relatively low, so if we can get the precipitation that some sites are predicting, we might just save this season after all.
Right now, the conditions are so-so at best. Off piste is slowly getting better, but the groomed / high traffic areas are really starting to show the signs of not having any new snow. They are basically, very hard packed / icy….. As James commented yesterday, the lower mountain is really suffering, with some slopes so ‘icy’ that most people end up side slipping down them (unintentionally, you just can’t get an edge in).

Second day of skiing for us in Whistler and I have to say today was much better. Spent the majority of the day over on the far side of Blackcomb and the traffic was light and the runs snowy. Favorite runs for the day were Twist & Shout and Arthur’s choice. No one around and 2-3 inches of fresh snow. Made it back over the Peak to Peak before closing and skied down the full Dave Murray downhill course. Gives you a new appreciation for what a world class skier is capable of. It has stopped snowing for now but more snow is predicted for Wednesday through Saturday. I agree with earlier posts that the lower mountain runs are icy and need to be avoided, even with the new snow conditions have not improved since Sunday.
Yesterday the snow was pretty damn good! I got a few good fresh tracks in, but today it’s really choppy with ice under it. Well, it was like that on the base of blackcomb anyway. I’m slightly injured from working on my 3s on skis, so i called it quits early.
nice weather though.
Thanks for the great updates on the snow conditions. Out to Whistler next Wed, this will be my 5th visit & I have to say I’m worried about the snow conditions. All previous visits were great with fresh snow, classic off piste. Looks like the snow may come this weekend I just hope the freezing level stays below 1000m.
Think I may go to church this weekend & pray (lol!)
These updates are great, so first of all thanks for them. Im not having a lot of luck with whistler the last 3 years running. Been at peak times every year and every time i have had a full 10 days of sunshine and no snow. I think i will give next year a miss. But i have a couple of days left so fingers crossed this snow will come as im off on saterday. I just have no luck.
You should have a great day Friday by the looks of it though!
Pack up etc. and be prepared to be exhausted friday night!
Overall things are picking up, I hope it does so in time for Kevin to get at least one decent day.
By Monday, we should be skiing with smiles on our faces…..
