Today was an awesome day. I woke up pleasantly surprised by an overnight snowfall of 15 cm, when only 5 or so was forecast. To top it off, it was very light snow, even down here in the valley. It was a breeze to wipe it off the car, always a good sign that the snow up higher is epic. It took a while for Avalanche control to get done, and the winds were quite high again, so the alpine lifts opened around 10:30am ( I guess ). It was worth the wait, everywhere I went was great skiing. The Blackcomb glacier, Spankys, Crystal chair zone, a few tree runs around Excelerator chair were all good, and worthy of second runs, although obviously I didn’t have time to do them all again. The last month sure has been amazing skiing conditions in Whistler.

Tonight they are calling for another 5 cm, so hopefully we get 15 cm like we got last night :) The snow base is 237 cm / 93 in. Winds are supposed to be around the 40 klm/hr, which isn’t that bad, but certainly noticeable. Hopefully it wont affect the opening of any of the lifts.

Looks like some sunshine is on the way next week. Might be a good time to get out and do some touring, with all the awesome snow we have had lately. Just be careful, we have had a fair big of sliding going on inbounds, so no doubt it’s pretty hairy out of bounds. The current Whistler area avalanche advisory  is HIGH in the alpine and CONSIDERABLE for treeline and below. So thats about as ‘bad’ as it can get.
