It’s getting harder and harder to keep going skiing – especially after the last 2 days (which I spent in Squamish). Yesterday I got the bike out and did some pedaling, checking out the trails around Alice Lake. There was a little bit of snow in places, but overall it isn’t far from biking season. Today we went rock climbing at the ‘Smoke Bluffs’ doing a few warm up climbs around ‘Burgers & Fries’ and ‘Jug Slab’. I may say warm up climbs, but after not climbing for a long time, I was certainly challenged.

It was great fun to be back on the bike and the rock, and I am looking forward to another great summer of outdoor fun :)

I intend to bike in Squamish again tomorrow (depending on weather), and we plan to check out the ‘Powerhouse Plunge’. Hopefully there isn’t much (or any) snow on it.

There is apparently a bit of new snow due around Sunday / Monday, so I will probably ski those days and see how it goes. It also looks like a bit of snow / rain for the beginning of next week, followed by sunshine and hot temperatures. Sounds like a perfect set up for the Ski and Snowboard Festival.

Without skiing the last 2 days, I would guess that yesterday was a little average (since it was cloudy and a little cold) but today was probably a great day for Spring skiing. Mostly sunny and it should have been hot enough to get a good slush going.

Today is Saturday, April 11. Best part about today: the waffles at Crystal Hut! We were not alone. It was something we’ve been wanting to do for years and with Crystal closing tomorrow we just made it. Waffles are extra large round guys and you can have any toppings among the following: strawbs, bluebs, maple syrup, choc chips, and whipped cream. Yup. We went for all toppings excdept blueberries. It’s a lovely rustic hut at the top of Crystal Chair, or part-way down Ridge Runner on Blackcomb.

Now on to the ski conditions. There was a light rain on the bottom, very heavy fog mid-mountain, and pretty clear around the Roundhouse level and fog again in the alpine. Hail mid-mountain, occasional snow higher.

Conditions were slush from the Green Chair down, sticky stuff with a firm base mid-mountain and lighter stuff with a firm base higher up. It got very warm this past week so I can see how everything softened up and now has frozen. It will be lots of fun when we either get lots of fresh snow (expected Sunday afternoon) or warms up to spring temps again.

It wasn’t so icey today that you couldn’t enjoy the snow; it was just more firm underfoot than I like. We explored some of the treed bump runs like Bark Sandwich (firm), Arthur’s choice (more fun, smoother), and Marmot trees. My knees didn’t complain as much as they usually do because the icey bits beneath the few cm of fresh were smooth as opposed to death cookies.

As I type this, it’s sunny at our place near Creekside. Go figure!

Oh ya, the mountain was pretty empty. No lift lines.

Yeah, I head out today and I had a pretty decent time. I got some good pow on places like pacalolo and Sapphire bowl. The entrance is still sketch to sapphire though.
