Mainly Clear Skies

I think today is the first time I have used the term ‘variable’ for the conditions. In the morning, the lower to mid mountain was frozen solid (having melted during the rain and then the temperatures dropped again) however by the afternoon, the lower mountain was really nice – quite soft in places.

The alpine (basically above the treeline), had plenty of fresh snow since it was closed yesterday and was fantastic in the Horstman and Blackcomb Glacier regions. 7th Heaven however had a slight crust to it, and I only did 1 run there. Crystal zone was hard packed, but smooth due to some nice grooming. The runs around Solar Coaster were also hard packed, but reasonable due to the good grooming once again. My only problem with the hard pack was the numerous little ‘balls’ on snow around the place – they weren’t any problem (like deathcookies can be) but just the sight on them puts me on edge a bit with the whole ‘what if’ scenarios.

The sky was mainly clear, with great visibility – in the afternoon it started to cloud over and the alpine was in and out of a fog layer. Temperatures were nice – although a little warm in the valley.

The forecast is looking better again, with the freezing level staying lower – and hopefully a bit more snow this week.

I will probably skip tomorrow, to save my legs for the 2 day Extremely Canadian clinic I am doing Thursday / Friday. I don’t want to be the local who can’t keep up :)

Yeah, towards about 2pm I was going up the Solar coaster and it was totally dumping snow all over the place. It only lasted for 15 minutes, but for that fifteen minutes it was insane!
