Another awesome day skiing the powder ! 10+ overnight on top of a lot of untouched snow from yesterday – yes please :) Crazy deep on the glacier. Snow quality was better than yesterday – my only complaint was the visibility, generally poor (at times fine, but mostly flat light or fog).
The temperatures are a little colder, which helps dry the snow out making it nice :) In fact the temperatures are spot on right now, cold enough for good snow but warm enough for comfortable chair rides. A nice change from the early season.
I was lucky enough to get a lot of fresh turns in today – especially on the Blackcomb Glacier which had been closed yesterday. The snow was amazing to ski. So deep ! :) It sure seemed like a half metre at times. I have had more faceshots in the last 2 days than all season.
Upper mountain snow was light, not quite fluffy….. it also hard a slight crust to its surface. So even when the vis was good, it was still a challenge. When its a foot deep though, its a challenge I’ll accept.
So many smiles around the hill today.
The forecast is looking sick – 10cm to 20cm tonight AND tomorrow – freezing level in the valley with clearing skies Thursday, maybe Friday. The possibility of even more after that !! :)
This is now the best week of the season, and it is only 2 days old.

Sorry about the lack of photos, I should have taken some yesterday during the sunshine. Today there was not enough light and vis for my little point and shoot camera to do any good. Also, the camera doesn’t always accompanying me – my jacket pocket only has room for the camera OR my hip flask :)

I love how many smiley faces there are on that post. I’m still injured and am going absolutely nuts to the fact that I’m not up there now with all that fresh snow still falling. It’s absurd.

I have to drive to function junction, but I just read a report on the vancouver sun that there’s going to be snow all the way down to vancouver. With my experience that means the roads are going to be messed.

Maybe i should do an official whistlerHighwaySnowReport as a comment on each one of your blog posts. hahah. :)

Nothing like a few good dumps to get everyone in a good mood, eh!

How have things filled in so far this week? When it clears up, see if you can snag a couple photos of Spanky’s, would ya?

Nick, forget your injury and ski tomorrow – you will not regret it!

Paul, I wouldn’t exactly say things have ‘filled in’ yet – but the skiing is excellent so long as you think about what you are doing. The base is still below 2m (and has been below 1.5m almost all season) so there are still a lot of rocks exposed – but the skiing that is available, is amazing right now.

I haven’t skied Spankys, and have heard it is still a case of picking your line down to avoid the rocks. Not exactly the fun way to ski it…

I will take the camera up tomorrow as it is supposed to be clearer.
