Yup, more powder in Whistler
Woke up to the news of 15 cm overnight, and proceeded directly to the lifts, did not pass GO. The snow was awesome first thing in the morning, while it was a little heavy in the valley, the stuff up top was light. There was definitely a bit of wind last night, as some areas were powder pockets and some were a little bare. I was lucky enough to get 2nd tracks down a favourite run of mine - Twist and Shout - in the Crystal zone of Blackcomb mountain. Not much to say, except top to bottom non-stop with a BIG grin on my face. I had a lot of fresh tracks today, always a good thing.
The only bad new today, as yesterday, was the visibility. Although I don’t really mind bad visibility when its due to snow falling ( the forecast was for 10 cm during the day, however I don’t think we got that much ). Laps through Spankys and the Blackcomb Glacier, were a question of timing, sometimes the light was great, and you could clearly see definition in the snow. Those laps were amazing runs. However, most of the day, the alpine was a very flat light, were I was struggling to stay aggressive on my skis. It did improve later in the day.
Snow Report:
New snow was reported as 15 cm, with a snow base of 236 cm. The current forecast is for small flurries for tomorrow, then another system is due to hit us during Saturday, with approximately 15 cm to fall. Hopefully it arrives in the afternoon, as the forecast for Sunday is relatively clear skies, so possibly a bluebird powder day
This weekend is the annual Peak to Valley race held on Whistler mountain. Skiers are timed for a gate run from the Peak of Whistler, down to the valley in Creekside. A vertical mile of thigh pumping gate busting. Good times are had by all, so if you happen to be in Whistler, check it out. I am not sure if you can still enter, as there are limited spaces and they normally go very fast.
Below is a photo I took yesterday of a friend of mine doing a smallish drop ( 3ft or so ).
