Snow for the Alpine

February 27th, 2008 · No Comments

Whistler has finally shook off the clear skies and has received a little bit of snow in the alpine, with rain in the village. Apparently we got 6cm or so today, with a decent snowfall expected this Friday and Saturday. Hooray ! Since the conditions have been awesome lately, the new snow was more than just ‘dust on crust’ with some good skiing to be had today. The snow was awesome, however the visibility was generally poor. A classic Whistler ‘fog’ layer or whatever you want to call it was to be found all over the mountains today. Made for some exciting skiing :)

Whistler is covered by clouds / fog at the moment, and it will probably be this way for a while. No more bluebird days ( at least until Spring ). This is good news though, as we are about to enter the time of year I like to refer to as ‘Whistler’s March Madness’. We often get hit with big storms in March, storms that we have all come to love so much. Its true the snow from now on is normally pretty wet and heavy, but often we get some really big snowfalls (50+cm) . The freezing levels are not likely to be below 1000m (when its snowing) so don’t expect any more epic ‘powder to the village’ days, but do expect so awesome days at the top.

Looking forward to this weekend, and this month.
