It definitely feels like Spring, lots of sunshine and hot. Today was a little cloudy and overcast, but yesterday was a full on heatwave. Overall, great skiing for those who like Spring conditions. There has been a slight wind at times in the alpine, but lower down it is dead calm. Remember the sunscreen, as between the sun, wind and solar radiation off the snow, it is burning time !!
The snowpack is still holding up quite well, with no bare patches yet. Walking around the valley, I have noticed the snow dumps are melting really fast, but on the mountain it still seems like a deep base. The groomers do a good job of pushing the snow around to maintain coverage, and they should be able to keep it up for a little while at least.
Apparently there is a chance of snow tonight, but the freezing level is only going as low as 1300m – so any snow will be heavy, and possibly create a slide or two. Another thing to be wary of as the temperatures rise, is pretty soon we will start our spring avalanche cycle – and with this year suspect base layers, we could see some pretty big slides. Not too much to worry about inbounds, but if you venture into the backcountry, it is something to consider.
Some weather forecast sites are predicting snow at low elevations, but personally I think the freezing level will not drop below 1000m (during precipitation). Therefore, we may get a decent dump or two in the alpine, but expect nothing but rain in the valley – which I am happy with as I want the rain to wash away the snow so we can start getting ready for a summer of mountain biking and rock climbing
Don’t forget to check out the accommodation specials for this weekend and over the Ski and Snowboard Festival – there are some cheap deals going right now.
Also, it has been brought to my attention that Microsoft’s Internet Explorer (I use Firefox) sometimes reports my website as a ‘Phishing Site’. That is incorrect, I am not trying to ‘steal’ information about you. The only time you would enter personal information is if you book accommodation through me, and even then, I never receive your credit card details, as the booking is conducted by a central booking system that is common to a lot of websites (there are only a few reservation systems on the internet that almost all websites use – this is to avoid ‘double bookings’ etc)
I have followed Microsoft’s ‘course of action’ to get this rectified (telling them I am the owner), but I don’t expect them to jump through any hoops to look into it. It will get sorted out, but will probably take some time. I sent them a message yesterday, but have not heard back from them yet.
So, if you happen to see that ‘warning’ I would appreciate it if you took the time to tell Microsoft that they are wrong (again!)
Thanks
