Today I skied a few laps on Blackcomb. It was blue skies all around with the temperature at about -3˚C: perfect. I skied Ross’s Gold as Upper Springboard was closed for the athletes to practice on. I also did a lap through the Terrain Garden and Wishbone (heading into the GMC race center for a few turns). Everywhere I went the groomers were in fantastic condition with virtually no one on them.

The Blackcomb glacier was a little more tricky – very chopped up and a little hard, especially on the shady side. Overall ok but didn’t make me want to go around again. In fact that was my last run and I headed down to the base of Whistler. The snow lower down was soft and slushy as it was more like +3˚C in the valley.

The photos are:
– the half pipe & the skier cross course – shame the Olympics aren’t being held here as they are in perfect shape;
– outside the Rendezvous, looking up at the Couloir. I didn’t ski it today so can’t report on it’s condition. You can see from the lightboard that all lifts were open.

:)

Here is an earlier report from a friend of Laura :

…it was a gorgeous day on the mountain. Thanks to Vanoc, having successfully managed to scare people away, the mountain was empty. Five people in a lift line-up was a crowd and many chairs were running without passengers. Before lunch you could ski onto the chair at Seventh Heaven without stopping!!! I have never seen the mountain this empty on a sunny day. All the day parking lots were closed and empty. On every street corner is RCMP plus traffic controller with no traffic to control and at Merlin’s were more empty tables than occupied ones. Kudos to Blackcomb, the mountain was in very good condition in anticipation of the masses to come–perhaps next weekend!
