The weekend is over, and the mountain is empty again. It is certainly a lot more fun skiing when you can ski straight onto the chairlift – although there was still a slight wait at Emerald chair. It was a little windy, and colder than I expected, but nothing major. In fact it was perfect weather for a training exercise for evacuating the Peak 2 Peak Gondola.

The runs are still in fantastic shape, the snow is soft and plentiful and there is still quite a bit of powder to be found (slightly off the beaten path). There was even a few cms of fresh on most of the groomed runs, which grew as the day wore on due to another system hitting us just before midday. It is expected to deliver another 10cm or so :)

Tomorrow morning will be great skiing, although the freezing level is set to rise in the afternoon to around 1200m before sky-rocketing up to 2000m at night. So I definitely plan to be on first lifts and have a half-day. Hopefully they are wrong about the freezing level, since we are also expecting a LOT of precipitation from the storm (on Wednesday). 2000m is basically the top of the mountains (as you can see on the freezing level charts), so we want the level to remain lower than that – especially since Blackcomb Mountain is full of untouched powder. We don’t rain to ruin it before we get a chance to shred it up on Thursday. Ullr has been kind to us so far, so lets hope he steps up again and replaces the rain with snow.

I also took a picture of the unload station of the new chairlift in Creekside. It is for the Olympic Alpine Skiing events and is going to transfer spectators from the valley up to the finish line.
