Today was another awesome day skiing Whistler Mountain.
Overnight we received 11cm with another 10cm falling during the day. The snow was light & dry once again, perfect for skiing. The open runs got pretty cut up initially, but by around lunchtime, the new snow had ‘topped’ a lot of them back up. Runs that were closed (such as Tokum in the Garbanzo zone) were decent ‘powder’ runs all day long – you just have to watch out for the cross ditches that haven’t filled in yet. Luckily I know where they are (mostly) so I am able to slow down to keep an eye out for them.
It was slightly windy around the Roundhouse level, but once you skied down 100m vertically or so, it was basically non-existent. That being said, it was windy on both Red and Emerald chairs, from approximately half way up them. It appears we are on the edge of a big system that should (hopefully) dump a lot more snow on us this week. The accompanying high winds suck, but since the alpine chairs are closed anyway, not that big a deal. The forecast looks very exciting.
Speaking of alpine chairs, the rumor mill is grinding once again – and this time the word is that Harmony chair will open next weekend (maybe even Thursday/Friday). I have heard from a few people who have hiked into Harmony zone, and they all seem to think the conditions are fantastic. A few more rocks to be wary of, but lots of sick powder!
I would also like to thank FanatykCo, a local Ski & Bike store. I bought a pair of ski boots from them 3 seasons ago, and my fault, I ended up with a size too small for me. I insisted on buying a half size smaller than they recommended (for a tight fit). Even so, they have been more than happy over the last few seasons to tweak the boot to make it fit better. So today, I went back in to ask for another tweak, and even though it has been a few years, they were quick to help me – free of charge. All boots they sell, are sold with boot fitting for free for the life of the boot. Anyway, I highly recommend them as boot fitters (just be sure to take there advice, and not try to squeeze into something smaller like I did).

Hey Greg,
Thanks for the recommendation of FanatykCo. I dropped in recently to pick up some new boots and absolutely agree with all you say about them: super-friendly bunch of guys who really know their stuff.
They worked with me for a couple of hours to get the boots fitting right (I have really wide, size 14 “problem” feet!) and set me up with custom liners and footbeds, too. Just a great feeling to ski with correctly-fitting, comfortable boots. A real confidence booster on the mountain.
Thanks again, and keep up the good work with the site – I always hit wbsr for the unofficial scoop.
Cheers,
Rich
I am glad to hear they worked out well for you too.
